So you’ve joined a league and it’s time to get started creating your team. This help section will break down the various areas of interest in your Fantasy League home screen and help to explain the rules and conditions around building your ultimate dream team.
You must fill all available player slots for your team to qualify for a competition. If your team does not qualify in time for the squad lock, your team will not receive any points for that stage.
Formations
The first thing you may want to do is decide on your formation, since this is the back bone of your Fantasy strategy. There’s a formation dropdown which can be used to select your style of play, and of course this can be changed anytime you wish. The available formations are as follows:
- 3-2-1 Defensive
- 3-1-2 Counter Attack
- 2-2-2 Balanced
- 2-3-1 Control
- 2-1-3 Attacking
The formations determine your active outfield team, with each formation also given an active goalkeeper and president role. Presidents earn additional fantasy points, primarily around team performances and outcomes. See our Scoring Model section for a deeper breakdown into their impact.
Bench & Substitutions
With each of the available formations you will also be given 4 slots for your bench.
- 1x Goalkeeper
- 1x Defender
- 1x Midfielder
- 1x Forward
The purpose of the subs bench is to give you a player as backup in the event one of your outfield players unexpectedly does not play. A missing / injured player can drop a lot of points on the leaderboard within a week, so it’s important to ensure you have a replacement available.
Budget
Starting Budget
Budgets are core to the financial management of Kings League Fantasy. Every manager will be given a Starting Budget to set up their teams. You must fill all available slots within your budget for your team to qualify for the league. If your team does not qualify at the time of the Squad Lock, you will not earn any points for that stage.
Each Player and President has a Salary dependent on their Kings League Performance or Rating. It is up to managers to balance their budgets wisely to build the strongest arsenal.
Variable Salary
Players' salaries can both increase and decrease based on performance and contribution. A lack of contribution (i.e. did no play) comes with the biggest impact of -3000 to their salary.
Each week, players are given 6 base points for stepping foot on the pitch, and their performance along with their team's result impacts their overall score both positively and negatively. For their salary, it is increased for any points scored above the base 6, and will be decreased if their total fantasy score falls below the base 6.
This adds huge variety to the players and their salaries allowing managers to cleverly buy and sell players throughout the competition to increase their overall squad value.
Bonus Budget
To help managers to grow and strengthen throughout the competition, and to avoid the high ranking performers becoming too far out of reach financially, teams will be rewarded with bonus budget on a weekly basis based on their overall Fantasy scores. So ensure you return after each stage to strengthen your squad.
Player Selection
You will need to fill all available slots from your selected formation in order for your team to qualify and earn points in the upcoming stage. If your team is not complete, you will be disqualified for the upcoming matchday.
When tapping an available slot, or a player you wish to transfer out you will be shown the transfer market screen. This screen will be filtered by the position in the formation you selected, example midfield. This screen offers a lot of information which can help managers make the correct decisions to improve their team, note you can also tap these column headers to sort.
- Stats
- Opens a player focussed modal allowing you to see a breakdown of their performance in the split to date, along with point average and total points, current salary and salary delta (difference between current and their starting salary) and their points by fixture.
- Prev
- Shows their most recent stages performance
- Total
- Combined Fantasy Points form the competition to date
- Salary
- Current price, and how much it changed positively or negatively in the past stage.
This screen can also be split up into a few various sections usually seen during playoff stages.
- Transfer Player
- Players available to transfer immediately. Please note players become greyed out here if they are outside of your budget.
- Not playing this round
- This filters out players who do not belong to a team who are part of the upcoming fixtures. For example, a team may finish the regular phase in first place and qualify directly through to a quarter finals stage, whereas lower ranked teams must play in a Last Chance stage.
- Unavailable
- These are players who belong to a team who have now been eliminated from the tournament during playoffs.
Card Selection
Collectible Boosts
After selecting a player for your team you will be given the opportunity to apply a collectible to the player. In standard mode these collectible cards act as a cosmetic skin only and offer no point bonuses to the leaderboard. For Prestige mode, the cards give bonus points which will be shown when selecting, with bonuses based on the cards tier, rarity and mint number.
Cosmetic
If you do not own any cards you may see a card here available for use, this is called a card cosmetic and is free to use to improve line-up aesthetically, great for sharing your team socially.
Market
You will also see market listings from fellow managers from around the world, who have listed their owned cards for sale. You can buy and apply these collectibles from other users directly from this screen and apply the card to your player to earn the bonus points in Prestige.
Season Requirements
You may use up to a total of 5 cards from previous seasons within your team. Once this limit is reached you will see older cards greyed out and become unavailable.
Secret Cards
Secret cards can give an additional boost to certain stat attributes depending on players real life performance. There are a variety of Secret Cards available, some more beneficial to specific positions and up to managers to maximise their effectiveness.
Applying a card
Simply select a player within your formation to bring up their modal, in the top left corner you will see a plus sign next to their profile image, tap / click this to open the secret cards menu. Please note that once the card is applied, it is applied directly to the player, not the position. If you transfer the player out, you transfer the secret card out with him. You can not retrieve a secret card once applied.
Acquiring Secret Cards
You can acquire a single Secret Card at random directly from this screen using the button next to the card store. This item gives a single Secret Card at random in return for Corona. It is also possible to acquire them from the store directly, with options for both single and bulk purchases.
Captain & Card Limits
The majority of Secret Card boosts do not come with a limit, and may be used on as many of your squad as you wish. You can even apply to your subs bench in the event they get substituted on.
However, the new Captain Secret Card does come with a limit. You may only apply this card to a single player within your team. As mentioned above, cards are applied to a player and cannot be retrieved once applied, so pick your captain carefully for the matchday, as you will not get a second opportunity to pick that week.
To see a full list of all Secret Cards and a breakdown of how they work see Secret Cards under the Game Mechanics help section.
